What is
Natalis Natalis?
I kind of surprised everyone when I released this short project on the first day of December last year. Usually when I'm working on something I try and mirror the project with a really cool ad-campaign that compliments the project -- That just wasn't the case with Natalis. As soon as the project was done I instantly put it online for everyone to see. There's a certain kind of joy that comes from the spontaneity of releasing things in that manner.
But what is it?
Natalis Natalis is a latin phrase. It literally translates to "birthday" in English. The first day of December - this project's release date - also happens to be my birthday. In a way Natalis was my "gift" to everyone who follows my work and supports me. I had the idea for the project sometime in November. I was looking back through my work and there was a good-bit of stuff that I had never shared with anyone and I felt like it was time to share it. Mostly, Natalis is a collection of unseen work but there are a few pieces that may be familiar to some. While the works aren't directly connected you'll see that for the most part they all touch on similar themes or ideas; those being time, self-worth, identity. December 1st was my 22nd birthday and I think what this project is at its heart is an examination of myself. I hope you'll see in the work a lot of the questions I keep asking myself as I progress as an artist. Things like: "
What am I doing with my work," "What is the point of all of this," "Is this just a means to an end or is this really who I am?"
Check out the project below. Comments are always welcome.
