Photography Redefined

What does a photograph say. A thousands words? Maybe, but how long is a thousand words really? I think I'd call that a short essay. Perhaps the most important question is; What do your photographs say about you? Are they short essays or are they something much more definitive?

Somewhere along the lines we forgot what portraiture was all about. Perhaps it was when the digital camera arrived and with it the notion that anyone with a little bit of money and spare time could become a not just a photographer, but a professional photographer.

You've seen them right? The $80 an hour, mini-session, photographers with more gear than know-how. Do you really think your portrait can be captured in simply 15 minutes?  Sure, the price sounds nice, especially in our economy, but look a little closer. A portrait is more than capturing a likeness - that can be done with a cell phone in mere seconds - a true portrait captures not only one's likeness but all the emotion, experience, and substance that emanates from all of us. I'll ask you again; what do your photographs say about you?

Are they hand-fulls of snapshots made with half an hour?

Are they more about the props than the subject?

Are they even real?

You're more than a gimmick. You're more than 30 minutes and a quick $80 in some faux-tographer's pocket. You're real, you're human, you're unique and there's far more to you than just a cute picture. Isn't it time your photos said that...?
